What Is Songdo Central Park?
Songdo Central Park is a 41-hectare green space at the heart of Songdo International Business District, Incheon's flagship smart city built on reclaimed tidal land. Its defining feature is a 1.8 km seawater canal that runs the length of the park — filled directly from the Yellow Sea, complete with small islands, water taxis and kayak courses.
Opened in stages from 2009, the park is surrounded by glass-curtain skyscrapers, convention centers and luxury apartments. It feels more like a futuristic film set than a traditional Korean park, and that contrast is a large part of its appeal.
Songdo Central Park is free to enter 24 hours a day. Only boat rentals, bike hire and the G-Tower observation deck have separate costs.
Top Things to Do
Walk or Cycle the Canal Path
A paved loop trail circles the canal and connects to wider cycling paths across Songdo. Bike rental stations dot the park, offering tandems, family four-seaters and standard city bikes. One full loop takes about 30 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by bike.
Rent a Boat on the Canal
Pedal boats, kayaks and electric boats are available from the main boathouse near the central plaza. A pedal boat for two costs around ₩18,000 for 30 minutes. Kayak single rentals start at ₩15,000.
Visit the Tri-Bowl
This three-lobed stainless-steel structure at the park's south end houses a multi-purpose performance hall and exhibition space. Even if nothing is on, the exterior architecture and its reflection on the canal are worth photographing.
Rabbit Island
A small island in the canal is home to a colony of domesticated rabbits. You can watch them from a footbridge — a hit with kids and Instagram photographers alike. Feeding the rabbits is not allowed.
Seasonal Events
- Spring (April-May): Cherry blossoms along the canal banks.
- Summer (July-August): Water play fountains activated for children.
- Autumn (October-November): Foliage reflections on the canal.
- Winter (December-January): LED light installations and holiday markets.
G-Tower Observatory
G-Tower is a 33-story government building at the northeast edge of the park. Its top-floor observation deck is free and open to the public, offering 360-degree views of Songdo's skyline, the canal park and the Yellow Sea. On clear days you can spot Incheon Bridge stretching toward the airport.
- Hours: 10:00-18:00 daily (closed Mondays and public holidays).
- Admission: Free — just present ID at the ground-floor security desk.
- Best time: Late afternoon for golden-hour photos of the skyline.
G-Tower's observation deck gets crowded on weekends. Visit on a weekday afternoon for the best experience and fewer people blocking window views.
