When Is Peak Autumn Foliage in Korea?

Korea's autumn foliage (danpung) peaks from mid-October to early November. The colors start in the north at Seoraksan National Park around October 10-18, then move south to Seoul and Naejangsan by late October, reaching Jeju in early November. Peak in any given spot lasts about 10 days.

October offers the most stable weather of the year in Korea — clear, dry, and mild. Combined with the foliage, it's widely considered the best month to visit.

The Korea Forest Service publishes forecast maps from late September each year.

Top Foliage Destinations

Seoraksan National Park

Korea's most dramatic peaks and the traditional starting point for autumn. Ride the cable car to Gwongeumseong Fortress for sweeping foliage views, or hike to Biryong Falls. Stay in Sokcho and plan for crowds during peak weekends.

Naejangsan National Park

Often called Korea's most colorful mountain. The maple-lined path to Naejangsa Temple is famous nationwide. Peaks around late October to early November.

Do I need to book foliage tours in advance?

Popular day tours to Nami Island, Seoraksan and Naejangsan sell out on weekends. Book 1-2 weeks ahead during peak season.
