Why Visit Busan?

Busan is Korea's second city and its beach capital — a port metropolis stretched along 50 km of Pacific coastline with mountains rising straight out of the sea. It's slower, sunnier and saltier than Seoul. Six real beaches, the country's biggest fish market, technicolor hillside villages, hot springs, seafood temples and a film festival that rivals Cannes. And you can get here from Seoul in 2h40 on the KTX bullet train.

Base yourself in Haeundae (beach district, upmarket) or Seomyeon (central, cheaper, best nightlife). The metro is small but the bus network is excellent. Most visitors spend 2-3 days here as part of a longer Korea itinerary.

Best time: May-June and September-October. July-August is beach season but crowded and humid. Busan International Film Festival is early October.

  • Haeundae / Gwangalli — Very safe day and night. Heavy tourist and family presence.
  • Seomyeon at night — Busy bar district, safe. Usual watch-your-drink precautions.
  • Jagalchi Market — Safe but slippery floors and moving crowds — watch your step and bags.
  • Beach swimming — Lifeguarded June-August only. Rip currents possible; swim between flags.
