Korea's Ski Season at a Glance
The ski season in Korea runs from early December to early March, with the best snow from late December through February. Resorts rely heavily on snowmaking, so cold nights matter more than natural snowfall. Most resorts open slopes with night skiing — a uniquely Korean experience.
Gangwon Province (host of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics) has the biggest and best ski resorts. They're all within a 2-3 hour drive or bus ride from Seoul.
Best Ski Resorts
Yongpyong Resort
Korea's largest ski resort with 28 slopes, a gondola to Korea's highest skiable peak and Olympic-caliber runs. Located in PyeongChang, 2h40 by KTX from Seoul (Gangneung line to Jinbu Station).
Vivaldi Park
The most popular day-trip resort from Seoul. Only 90 minutes by shuttle bus from Hongdae, with 13 slopes and a huge water park next door.
High1 Resort
High-altitude resort in Jeongseon with reliable powder, 18 slopes and a more relaxed atmosphere than Yongpyong. Great for intermediate skiers.
Phoenix Park
Former Olympic venue for snowboarding events. Excellent terrain park and night skiing, popular with younger Korean snowboarders.
Day Trip vs Overnight from Seoul
For a short trip, day tours from Seoul to Vivaldi or Jisan are ideal — they include round-trip transport, lift pass, and often rentals for ₩80,000-130,000. For a longer stay, go to Yongpyong or High1 and book a condo or hotel on-resort.
- Day trip from Seoul: Vivaldi Park, Jisan Forest, Konjiam.
- Overnight / long weekend: Yongpyong, High1, Phoenix Park.
- Combine with Gangneung beach or the PyeongChang Olympic trail.
